There is a vicious lie being circulated by the retiree group as part of the propaganda to undermine the union that needs to be refuted immediately regarding an amendment introduced by the City to the upcoming State budget that attempts to delay money from our employee pension systems to pay for healthcare.
Let me be clear: DC 37 does NOT support this legislation.
Not only did we oppose the initial introduction of the legislation in Albany, we are currently fighting it in the Senate and Assembly during the ongoing budget deliberations.
The City’s Office of Management and Budget submitted this legislative proposal to the Governor before the pension trustees took a vote, which appears to be a deliberate decision to exclude the representatives of the very workers this legislation will directly impact. Since the introduction, DC 37 has registered a ‘no’ vote at NYCERS and BERS in our capacity as pension trustees.
We will continue to fight any attempts to take money from our pensions. Period.
We also condemn any organization that uses deceit, deliberate misinformation, and scare tactics to attempt to turn our members against us. Be mindful of the source of the information you’re presented— this retiree group has proven time and again that it will stoop to any low to garner support, even at the expense of our active and retired members.
Our union is stronger than those who wish to harm us.
