Child Welfare workers have a challenging and often dangerous job. ACS is the agency responsible for ensuring the safety of all children. These workers are committed to helping children and families, while addressing allegations of child abuse and neglect.
Unlike workers in any other profession, those in child welfare are expected to be 100 percent successful. It is a goal we all wish could be achieved.
There are times when a child dies at the hands of a guardian or someone known to the family. Under no circumstances has an ACS worker ever killed a child.
We have advocated for our workers and the families that we serve. We advocate for continued hiring, training, retention incentives and mentoring programs. We advocate for the reduction of redundant paperwork. We advocate for the use of social workers to address families that have generational involvement with the system.
We will continue to support our ACS workers who serve the children and families of New York, day in and day out. What doesn’t make the news is the countless children and families they have saved.
We will continue to work with the administration and the legislature to effect policies and laws that maximize our workers’ ability to do their jobs.
