NYC Public School Families Can Get a $50 Monthly Internet Credit, Apply Now

New York City public school families can receive a $50 monthly discount on internet broadband service and equipment. Families must apply and find a broadband provider in their area participating in the federal Emergency Broadband Benefit Program.

Families can also check to see if their current internet providers are participating in the program. The broadband service then offers eligible families a discounted rate and is reimbursed by the federal government. Household can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 on a laptop tablet or desktop computer.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program began in May as part of the temporary federal COVID-19 relief response and will last until “the funds run out of money” or six months after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the pandemic, whichever comes first, according to the program’s website.

Families that earned less than $99,000 for single tax filers or $198,000 for joint tax filers in 2020 qualify, as do families receiving benefits such as SNAP, or those who lost work last year.
